ALA, EPA and DHA are not identical

ALA is an essential omega-3 found mainly in plant foods. EPA and DHA are long-chain omega-3s found in fish, seafood and some marine oils. The body can convert a limited amount of ALA, but that process does not make every source nutritionally identical.
